Annual conference 2022

The 2022 5th Annual Conference was held at the Wills Memorial Building, University of Bristol on 8-9 August.  It was great to to meet in-person again following 2 years of the conference being delivered online due to the global pandemic.

We celebrated the achievements of our first cohort of fully funded students, many of whom will be finishing this year, by inviting them to talk about their research. We also had 2 excellent keynote speakers, Dr Catrin Moore (St George’s, University of London and Member of the Advisory Group for World Health Organisation’s Critically Important Antimicrobials for Human Medicine) and Prof Iruka Okeke (Professor of Pharmaceutical Microbiology, University of Ibadan, Nigeria, Partner in the NIHR Global Health Research Unit on Genomic Surveillance of Antimicrobial Resistance, and advisory board member of Wellcome Trust’s Surveillance and Epidemiology of Drug Resistant Infections Consortium (SEDRIC). Prof Okeke joined us via live broadcast from Nigeria.

Winners of our annual poster session were Jaida Begum (University of Bristol), Kevin Chau (University of Oxford), Lucy Miller (Imperial College London) and Antonia Molloy (Aston University).

This year the foundation also ran an AMR video competition, ‘How do you solve a problem like AMR?’ First prize was awarded to Victoria Daramy-Williams (The Francis Crick Institute), runner up was Karen Adler (University of Leicester) and third prize was scooped up by Dana Itani (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine). Watch the winning videos below, and all the other entries in the showreel.
